July 16 - 18, 2010
Friday, July 16:
As requested, we have included a cruise up-Island to the beautiful Crown Isle Golf Resort in Courtenay (www.crownisle.com). We will travel approximately 120 miles then park on the golf course for lunch before returning to Victoria. The cost is $25 per person and tickets are limited to 500 people on a first-come basis.
Update: The Friday cruise / lunch is sold out and we now have a waiting list. If you wish to be on the list, send payment with your registration. If you can not be included, we will reimburse your money at the event.
Saturday, July 17: News Flash - Change of venue
After two years of negotiating with The Bear Mountain Golf Resort things are not looking good, and it's not news that they are in financial trouble. The original plans for them to host a dinner on the driving range have changed. The costs to put on this event have soared to $40K, just for setup and they are not springing for any of it, putting it completely on the shoulders of Northwest Deuce Days. Even though the hotel has been completely sold out for the last six months for this event, they feel it is not their responsibility to supply the venue. Months ago when I had the feeling this might not work out, I suggested we go back into the ballroom as we did in 2007. Their reply was that they had already booked a wedding in the ballroom. With all of this happening I was forced to find another venue that would house up to 1000 people.
Indeed I have found one at the beautiful Victoria Conference Centre. This is located directly behind the Empress Hotel and is easy walking distance from most hotels located around the Inner Harbour. I realize many have booked rooms at Bear Mountain and this becomes a bit of an inconvenience for those wanting to attend the dinner. I have asked Bear Mountain to put on a shuttle bus to accommodate those staying there and their reply is they will not commit at this time.
Tickets are on sale for the dinner at $75 per person and sales will stop on April 15, 2010, or when we are full, whichever comes first. You can purchase tickets by calling 250-385-8571 or e-mail al@deucesnorthwest.com.
Plans for a poker run on Saturday, July 17, are in the works and will be announced at a later date. There will not be any show at Bear Mountain, but another beautiful location to end the poker run is being negotiated.
Yours Truly,
Al Clark
